Hey!
This is Raffi Nersessian, I am a vegan athlete and I am the owner/food expert at GymBar.
In this first article, I will be introducing myself and GymBar to you and I will guide you into the details and subjects of the upcoming articles that will be discussed on this blog.
As a student, sports has always been a part of my life and my daily routine. It all started in high school when I began to practice football and basketball… Ever since that time, basketball has been my favorite sports.
After graduating as a business management student in 2012, I started working in a bank and that lasted for about two years. Well, that was never what I wanted, but sometimes life puts us in situations where we have to make some sacrifices. Nevertheless, Banking never stopped me from pursuing my passion for sports, food and a healthy lifestyle. Thus, I created GymBar in 2015 while I was still working at the bank. Juggling both careers at the same time became hard and I decided to follow my dream and quit my banking job.
Initially, GymBar was a regular area at a gym, offering healthy food, protein shakes, juices, supplements, etc… A year after its creation, and after so many researches, I started to become more and more aware of the environment, animal cruelty and health issues caused by some diets. I took the life-changing decision to switch to a vegan diet. I received a sports training certificate and attended workshops related to food and I developed and educated myself. A lot of vegan items were added to the GymBar menu and after collaborating with TransformU by Ohan who is a vegan personal trainer and a wellness coach, the real image of GymBar was completed and the mission was set.
GymBar (in collaboration with TransformU by Ohan) is a concept that combines the two inseparables for a healthy lifestyle: Sports and Nutrition. We assist people in achieving their goals in a healthy way and raise awareness about the benefits of veganism for athletes, people into fitness and gym enthusiasts.
One of the most important things to know about the healthy vegan diet is the fact that it is usually low in saturated fat, low in cholesterol, and high in fiber; it keeps your heart healthy and keeps your body fat percentage low. This is especially important for athletes with specific goals who rely on their performances.
The highlights of my articles will be about food, its composition and its benefits. I will share with you multiple information about vegan meals with different sports routines and their benefits for athletes. Fun articles will be the ones in which I will correct all the misconceptions and the myths spread about veganism and share all the truths with you.
To get you started I will share with you a quick delicious vegan breakfast meal to get you started with your day with a boost of energy.
INGREDIENTS:
So this is very simple. All you need to do is mix 30g of instant oats with 100 ml of Soy milk and keep is soaking for a few minutes. Add half a banana, strawberries and 2 tps of peanut butter and a sprinkle of Chia seeds on top and enjoy. This is a very easy meal that you can even prepare overnight and store it in the refrigerator for the next morning.
Enjoy!
Please share your experiences, worries, questions and thoughts in order to help me choose the best articles for you.
